Dealing with the death of a loved one is a big challenge in life, and thankfully, Abriola Parkview Funeral Home provides a safe, nurturing environment for you to deal with these emotions. Located in Trumbull, CT, Abriola Parkview Funeral Home has been supporting the greater Bridgeport community since its doors first opened in 1906. It has been family owned for over four generations, and has maintained its high standards throughout the years. Not only do they offer traditional funeral services, cremation options, national and international mortuary transportation and obituaries, they provide those services while maintaining the highest levels of sympathy and care. So much so, in fact, that they have been previuosly honored for their years of service by the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association.

Abriola Parkview Funeral Home’s professional staff knows that as hard as grief can be for the one suffering from it, it is also hard on the person who has to see a close friend or loved one struggling through that grief. They’ve compiled a list of five tips that will help make that process easier not only for them, but for you as well:

  • Be there for them. Just be yourself—simply being a presence that one can depend on is enough for a person in grief.
  • Don’t expect things to get back to “normal”. Remember, there is no “normal.” People deal with grief in different ways, and have different time frames. Some people are changed completely after losing a loved one. Accept those changes.
  • Check on them over time. It is easy to think that things are fine if the griever isn’t displaying his or her emotions outwardly anymore, but certain things can trigger huge relapses in the grief process. Check and make sure things are going well over time.
  • Tolerate angry responses. Be prepared for the fact that you may be the focus of some angry reactions or outbursts. It is not necessarily a reflection on you or the things you are attempting to do.
  • Don’t say you understand. If you have gone through a loss, you might be prone to say you understand how they feel—but you may not. Grief is different for everyone, and acknowledging that is the best way to help.
