If you prefer not to drink the raw, potable water coming from the tap, you’re not alone. Water filtration has made itself integral to modern life, which is why many people have water purification systems in their homes. Now, Quality Sound & Water is bringing pure water technology to businesses who want to do away with bottled water coolers, with cutting-edge point-of-use water filtration systems.

But how does the water purification process work?

Carbon Treatments

Carbon treatments use sponge-like activated charcoal to remove suspended particles from water. These treatments can remove a variety of contaminants, such as chlorine, chloroform, and pesticides. It’s common for carbon treatments to happen before and after the raw water makes its way through other water filtration processes.

Steam Distillation

Because of the high temperatures and evaporation involved, steam distillation can be trusted to eliminate most organic and inorganic water contaminants. Raw water is boiled, killing dangerous bacteria like giardia and salmonella, and evaporates as it boils. When the water vapor rises from the bottom of the container, it leaves behind contaminants like heavy metals, fluoride, sodium, and nitrates.

Vent Filtration

Some systems include a vent filter as an extra escape for VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, that you don’t want to drink. These hydrophobic filters prevent water from leaving the tank as the VOCs evaporate while also preventing outside contaminants from making their way into the water tank.

Distillate Condensation

After raw water has been through a steam distillation system, it needs to be cooled, so it can condense. As it does, it changes from its vapor state to its liquid state to refill the tank, free of bacteria and VOCs. Unless a carbon post-treatment follows, this is the last step in most pure water technology.
