As a parent, you know that quality nutrition is a vital part of your child’s health and overall development. That’s why it’s important for your preschool-age child to be provided healthy snacks they need to support their growth and learning. If you’re struggling with implementing healthy items or your child is getting bored of what they’ve been snacking on, here are five delicious snack ideas to try this week — all of which are easy to tweak to suit your little one’s preferences.

5 Healthy Snacks for Preschool

1. Healthy Roll-Ups

These roll-ups will satisfy your child’s hunger and nutritional needs. Start by grabbing a whole wheat tortilla, wrap, or slice of bread. Spread your kid’s favorite sandwich topping, like mustard, hummus, or light ranch, and a slice of lunch meat, cheese, and lettuce. Roll it up and then slice it into bite-sized portions.

2. Peanut Butter & Apple Wedges

This snack is a wholesome combination of protein, healthy fats, and carbs. To prevent browning, use a rubber band to keep the apple wedges around the core. Most preschools do not allow peanut butter in their classrooms, as some children have severe peanut allergies. Other nut butters, like almond and cashew butter, are tasty alternatives. If you are still worried about your child having a nut butter around others, you can look for a nut free spread at the grocery store instead. The best way to enjoy this healthy snack is to have it at home after preschool.

3. Hummus & Veggies

This snack is colorful, tasty, and nutritious. Slice a colorful array of vegetables, such as carrots, cucumbers, and bell peppers, into matchsticks. Serve them with a separate cup of hummus, or spread the dip in the bottom of a container and stand the veggies on top.

4. Squeeze Yogurts

Squeezable yogurts are convenient and fun to eat, however, look for options with simple ingredients and moderate amounts of sugar. Greek yogurt is packed with protein, which makes it an excellent choice for your growing preschooler.

5. Ants on a Log

This fun snack offers plenty of room for customization. Keep it classic by spreading peanut butter on celery sticks and sprinkling raisins on top. Switch it up with almond butter, nut free spreads, cream cheese, grapes or blueberries, or even dark chocolate chips.
