If you like the appearance of a garden but aren’t interested in spending a lot of time tending to the plants, perennials are the type of flower you’re looking for! These blooms only have to be planted once and they’ll continue to come up year after year with little maintenance required. Four species recommended for this type of gardening are listed below:

4 Perennials to Plant in Your Garden

1. Veronica

If you’re looking for a plant that has an even combination of color, consider the Veronica. These plants are slightly bushy and have a series of stalks that measure anywhere from 12 to 24 inches tall. At the top of each one, there is a 7-inch spike of miniature purple flowers. These bloom throughout the summer and survive best in a sunny area.

2. Asters

perennialFor those who enjoy tiny spots of color throughout their gardens, the aster is the way to go. These plants feature bunches of blooms that look like small, delicate stars and come in a variety of whites, blues, and purples. They are best used as a border plant and can grow up to 5 feet tall.

3. Black-Eyed Susan

A popular addition to any garden, the black-eyed Susan is one of the most recognized perennials on the market. Each of its tall stalks has a bright yellow blossom at the top with a dark black center that stands out in high contrast. These flowers prefer the sun and don’t need to be watered as often as other species.

4. Siberian Iris

This plant will provide a touch of elegance to any garden and comes in a wide assortment of deep purples, dazzling yellows, and bright whites. Its angled leaves form a base for the long stems and draw attention to the curling petals of the blooms. These flowers will continue to make an appearance all summer long, so you can enjoy their vibrant colors for several months.
