Plastics Used in Custom Injection Molding

1. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)

ABS is known for its strength and durability. It’s cost-efficient and lightweight, and it works well in products with metal coatings. ABS is frequently used in appliances, toys, and vehicles; however, it’s not recommended for food storage.

2. Polyethylene

Polyethylene is inexpensive, and at higher densities, it’s strong and heat resistant. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is used for food containers and toys. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is flexible, resistant to moisture, and recyclable, so it’s commonly used for disposable food storage. However, its ability to bond is low, making it impractical for extreme weather conditions.

3. Polypropylene (PP)

It’s a food-grade plastic, meaning chemicals won’t seep into and contaminate the food. With its high durability, resistance to chemicals, and low price, PP is used in a wide variety of goods, from child safety lids and food utensils to clothing.

4. Nylon

Nylon is a tough plastic known for its resistance to chemicals. It can also withstand harsh abrasion and impact. Nylon is flexible, and it’s used in a broad range of items, including shoes, automotive and medical products, and sports equipment.
