The iPhone® is the most iconic and prevalent smartphone in the world, and it has been for quite some time. If you don’t own an iPhone yourself, you almost certainly know someone who does. The reason for this is simple – the iPhone is amazing. Period. If it weren’t such a powerful or amazing device, the iPhone would not be the ubiquitous symbol of communication that all other smartphones are compared to. Unfortunately, there are a lot of iPhone users out there who aren’t making the most of their phones because they’re still using PCs. Using a Mac computer with a macOS allows you to get even more from your iPhone by connecting the two devices with the same iCloud® and Apple ID®,. Here are a few examples of how this is done.

  1. Better Communication – the newest versions of macOS (Sierra® and High Sierra®) offer great compatibility with iPhones. Connecting the same iCloud and Apple ID to each device allows you to send and receive text messages directly from your computer. You can even answer and make phone calls so long as your devices meet the continuity system requirements. Another way that Apple® devices streamline communication is with a feature known as Instant Hotspot®. You can turn your phone into a mobile hotspot that provides internet access to your computer even if you’re away from wi-fi networks. As long your phone has service and an active SIM card, you can surf the web on your computer from just about anywhere!
  2. Seamless Transitions – there are several features of macOS and iOS® that allow you to move from your phone to your computer or vice versa as your work on an app or program. This means you can start writing an e-mail on your phone, decide you want to use a proper keyboard, and swap over to your Mac to finish what you started on your phone. This is a nifty little feature called Handoff®. There is also a feature called Universal Clipboard® that allows you to copy a link, image, or body of text on one device, and seamlessly paste that link on another device. All you need is two apple devices with the same Apple ID and iCloud!
  3. Easy and Convenient Backups – backing up your phone is important for all users, because you never know what might happen to your phone or data. With a Mac computer, backing up your phone has never been easier. All you have to do is connect your phone to your computer via a usb cable, open iTunes®, and allow your devices to communicate with one another by ‘Trusting’ your computer on your phone. Open up the mobile tab that represents your device and click ‘Back up now’. Let iTunes do it’s thing and you’re done! Now you have a complete backup of your phone or iPad in case anything goes wrong!
