One of the best parts of living in a warm climate is being able to enjoy your swimming pool. Swimming is a great activity to burn some energy and keep you cool at the same time. If you're hitting the pool with your little ones in the near future, check out these ideas for fun aquatic games to play.

3 Swimming Pool Games for Kids

1. Sharks & Minnows

A classic game played in swimming pools, one swimming poolschild gets to play the shark while the rest are dubbed as minnows. The shark begins by standing in the center of the pool and the rest stand on the side, out of the water. Their goal is to jump into the water and get past the shark without being touched. The race begins when the kid in the middle says “go!”. If tagged, you're out of the game. The game ends when either the shark tags everyone, or the last-standing minnow gets across one last time without being touched.

2. Chicken Fight

A fun and physical battle, chicken fighting is great with even-numbered groups. Make sure to set a rule that kids cannot wonder into water deeper than their chest. Likewise, stay away from the edges of swimming pools. Only play this game in the middle of the water and without anyone else standing or swimming too close.

To start, an older child or adult picks up a smaller, often younger child onto their shoulders. You'll need at least two teams of two. When the game begins, the two players sitting on their teammates’ shoulders lock hands with each other and attempt to knock each other off their seated positions and into the water.

3. Racing

A classic game for kids that doesn't require any extra supplies is a race to the finish. Two or more kids must choose a starting point and an ending point, often going from one end of the pool to another. The person who swims the fastest and touches the other side first is the winner. You can switch this up by only allowing doggy-paddling, or including the use of a beach ball or float device.
