Parkinson’s Awareness Month, which serves to bring attention to the disease and the needs of the patient community, is fast approaching.   April was chosen to commemorate the birth of Dr. James Parkinson, who formally identified the condition 200 years ago.  It brings organizations, researchers, and millions of individuals together throughout the United States to help improve the quality of life of those living with Parkinson’s and their families.

As part of this effort, CAP is hosting a Wellness Expo on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 10:00 am – 2:00 pm in the Courtyard by Marriot Cromwell. This expo will highlight wellness programs and clinical trials for people with Parkinson’s disease.  Allyson Kinney, a CAP Board Member, is working tirelessly behind the scenes coordinating this great event. Admission is free.

Additionally, Peter Northrop, a CAP member, is serving as Team Captain for our contingent of members walking in the Parkinson’s Unity Walk in New York City at Central Park. CAP members will unite as a team and walk along this course together. In addition to raising awareness and monies for research, it is also a day of community and education. You will also have the opportunity to visit informational booths with healthcare experts sharing information and resources. The Walk will be held on April 28th, 2018.   Plus, on April 21st at 10 a.m., Sarah Diaz is hosting CAP’s first Bilingual Informative/Orientation in Waterbury at the Silas Bronson Library, featuring movement disorder specialist Dr. Maria DeLeon, and Naida Rodriquez-Rosado, owner of Fitness Fury X-perience, because, in Sarah’s words, “Parkinson’s is not just a Caucasian/male disease”.  Well said, Sarah.

During this month, I encourage you to join Allyson, Peter or Sarah at one of CAP’s events, one of many others in the community or hold your own event with friends, family, and colleagues. This month starts with you. There has been significant progress in the last decade alone, and there is a considerable reason to be optimistic. For this Parkinson’s Awareness Month, learn how you can get involved and help us find a cure. I genuinely believe concerted efforts like these help move Parkinson’s research forward at a much more significant rate.

As always, CAP is here to serve you. If we can help you in any way, please give us a call at 860.266.6040.

Warm Regards,
