Coryell Memorial would like to highlight our Respiratory Therapy Team during Respiratory Care Week 2017!

What is a respiratory therapist?

Respiratory therapists are there when a patient needs help breathing; they intubate patients whose airway needs to be kept open and deliver life-saving medications to restore breathing. Respiratory therapists see a wide range of patients, from drowning and accident victims to people with chronic, manageable lung diseases, such as asthma. For those with chronic disorders, part of the respiratory therapist’s job is to show the patient how to use the medications that help them breathe better. They show patients with asthma how to properly use inhalers and nebulizers at home. They can assist patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or congestive heart failure by showing them how to use an oxygen mask.
