How to Select a New Skid Steer Loader

Type

Skid steers come in different sizes for different applications. If you are lifting heavy pallets of paver’s you need a machine with a higher lifting capacity. If moving dirt and mulch is your goal a standard 50 hp or 60 hp unit would work out great. If your working in wet sloppy conditions most of the time consider a rubber track loader (a skid steer with rubber tracks) and Kubota and Mustang have the right skid steers for you.

The Right Tire

Sounds silly right? Well the wrong lug on a tire can cause you to slip and not be able to finish your job. You can get a multi purpose lug or a turf lug on your skid steer. NOW however there is another choice. A solid cushion tire which can go in dirt. Previously solids were for solid surface (concrete) work only, now they have lugs and holes drilled in them to reduce weight and increase cushion. Imagine having a tire that would never go flat! Hydraulics

Most skid steers are ordered with auxiliary hydraulics. You can however also get what is called a “high flow” machine. This means you have a much stronger hydraulic pump to run certain skid steer attachments which require higher flow like a stump grinder, concrete planer or milling machine.

Attachments
