Members of the Texas Pain Society spent last Tuesday at the state capital informing state legislators about the medical aspects of various bills that will affect patients with chronic pain.

Coryell Memorial Healthcare System pain management physician, Richard K. Hurley, M.D., took office in November 2016, as President of the Texas Pain Society (TPS). TPS is a non-profit organization of over 350 pain practitioners that are involved in acute and chronic pain management of patients in Texas.

“I have been a TPS member for more than ten years, since its inception, but did not become committed to service until I went to the State Capital on a "First Tuesday”.  Watching and listening to the board of directors discuss pain medicine legislative issues made me realize how important the TPS voice is in Austin. Every day the Board strives to represent physicians and ensure access to pain care for the people of Texas,” said Dr. Hurley.

“Dr. Hurley has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the areas of legislative advocacy and grassroots activism. We are proud to have Dr. Hurley as one of our physicians, representing for positive changes at the state level in Austin, as well as serve as a community spokesperson for pain management and patients,” said Coryell Memorial C.E.O., David Byrom.
