Since there has been running water, there have been plumbers in some way, shape, or form. The trade school experts at Berk Trade & Business School in Long Island City, NY, want you to know your history before enrolling, so here’s some fun plumbing trivia you probably didn’t know before.

  • If asked what he would do if he could live his life all over again, Albert Einstein said he’d become a plumber.
  • When are the most toilets flushed simultaneously? Yep, you guessed it, at halftime during the Super Bowl.
  • Nintendo stars Mario and Luigi, the world’s most famous plumbers, have been in more than 200 video games since 1985. They’ve also appeared in numerous television series, and feature films, including one where Dennis Hopper plays King Koopa.

  • It’s possible to die while falling off a toilet, at least it was for King George II in 1760. Elvis of course died while sitting “on” the toilet; quite different, but tragic nonetheless.
  • Did you know that the average human spends more than three years of their life on the commode?
  • Toilets flush clockwise in the southern hemisphere, and counter clockwise in the northern hemisphere, due to the Coriolis effect…not true actually. It just depends on which direction your toilet’s water jets have been installed.
  • In Japan, there are actually voice-activated toilets, just like in the Simpsons episode “30 Minutes Over Tokyo.”
