If you work in a warehouse, forklifts are essential to business operations, helping you load and move around materials easily. But even the most well-maintained forklifts could have trouble turning on from time to time. When this happens, you may feel frustrated and unsure of what’s causing the issue. If your forklift starter isn’t working, do some troubleshooting and consider a few reasons this may be happening, such as those listed below.

3 Reasons Your Forklift Starter Is Malfunctioning

1. Battery

forklift starterFirst, you should check the forklift’s battery and make sure all conections are good. Although this may seem obvious, it is a common mistake that can easily be overlooked.  Make sure the battery is charged. The last user may have forgotten to charge it, leaving the machinery without sufficient power.

2. Emergency Power Off

Check if the last user pressed the “Emergency Power Off” button, as this prevents the engine from starting. If the button was pushed, check with the previous operator and find out why they did so. They may have noticed a real problem that requires the help of a trained technician.

3. Cold Temperature

If your forklift is powered by propane, cold temperatures may affect the engine. Give it some time to heat up or, if possible, move it to a warmer area. This will speed up the process, allowing you to start unloading shipments and packing shelves as soon as possible.
