When you’re dealing with a clogged drain, your first instinct might be to reach for a plunger or a plumbing snake. But not all clogs are created equal, and some sewer line problems are best treated with hydro water jetting. Here’s what you should know about this process.

What Is Hydro Water Jetting?

Hydro water jetting refers to the process of using a powerful stream of water to clear a drain. The equipment is more advanced than a regular plumbing snake, also known as an auger, which usually consists of a long metal tube and a hand crank. Water jetting requires a specialized nozzle attached to a high-pressure hose, which is connected to a machine that pressurizes water.

Because water jetting is more powerful than a regular plunger or auger, it should only be performed by an experienced professional. Before running water through your lines, they will generally inspect your system to ensure the pipes aren’t damaged; after all, a sudden burst of high-powered water would damage them further!

What Issues Does It Fix?

You don’t need to pump a high-powered burst of water through your pipes for basic clogs like built-up tangles of hair. An auger should do the trick, or you can even try drain cleaning solutions on your own. Water jetting is ideal for larger clogs that can’t be handled with other processes. For instance, built-up grease, minerals, and larger obstructions like tree roots can be washed away by a properly positioned water jet.

When in doubt, call in a professional plumber for a proper pipe inspection to diagnose slow drains. They can recommend the best way to restore drain function quickly, efficiently, and safely.
