The Hawaiian islands are as diverse as they are beautiful. Each one offers something special for tourists and residents alike. Since each island is so different, it can be hard to decide which one is right for your family. Below, the moving professionals at M. Dyer & Sons talk about the greatest qualities of the most populated islands to help you decide.

Moving to Hawaii: Which Island Is Best for You

Oahu

Oahu is the most developed of the Hawaiian islands. If you want all the comforts of a city with all the beauty of the beach, Oahu is the place for you. From world class shopping and fabulous entertainment to breathtaking hikes and exhilarating water sports, Oahu has it all. If you want to raise your kids with a traditional suburban upbringing, this island is the place to be. If rural life interests you more, on the other hand, it is worth checking out the other islands.

Mauimoving

Maui does not have nearly as much development as Oahu, but most of its residents consider that a plus. Life moves a little slower on Maui, and the entire island has that carefree vibe you find in beach towns everywhere. If you don’t care for luxurious shopping or a thriving nightlife, Maui could be the island for you. The biggest industries on this island are tourism, healthcare, and construction.

The Big Island

If you’re moving to Hawaii so you can pick up farming, check out the Big Island. Because it is so much larger than the other islands, it offers a lot more opportunities for agriculture. In fact, the best butcher shops and restaurants on the other islands get all their pasture-raised beef from the Big Island.

People tend to sprawl out more on this island, so if the idea of living in a high-rise on Oahu makes you claustrophobic, look for homes on the Big Island. It is essentially impossible to find a fairly secluded home with a decent backyard on Oahu, but you should be able to find one on the Big Island without any issues.
