Carbon Monoxide is a odorless byproduct of the combustion process that is a known health hazard and killer. Where it becomes so dangerous is that it starves the body of oxygen and can cause loss of consciousness. People get poisoned by it and may not realize that they have problem on their hands.

CO (carbon monoxide) primary sources in the home are from furnaces and water heaters. There are two main types of detectors that you can put in your home, plug in or battery powered.  Some plug in models have a battery backup as well. 

Recommended placement should include one in the same room as your furnace/water heater, but not right by those appliances. In the living area, right by your bedrooms so that they can alert you at night.
