If you recently discovered you’re pregnant, you may be wondering what the coming months have in store. Each trimester of pregnancy comes with its own symptoms and bodily changes. While every woman’s experience is different, there are some common symptoms you can expect.

6 Early Pregnancy Symptoms

1. Higher Basal Temperature

Your basal body temperature is the temperature reading you get when you first wake up in the morning. This will be higher right after you ovulate, up until your next period. Once you’re pregnant, this reading will remain escalated.

2. Bleeding & Cramping

You probably associate these symptoms with your period, but very light bleeding along with cramps are common in the first weeks of pregnancy. Although it might be normal, it can also be serious so ask your provider. Later in pregnancy, bleeding needs to be investigated to make sure it's not something serious.

3. Fatigue

pregnancyIntensifying levels of progesterone in the first weeks of pregnancy can make you feel unusually tired and listless. Your blood pressure and sugar may also lower, which also contribute to feelings of fatigue.

4. Constipation

Hormone fluctuations can cause your digestion to slow. As food passes more slowly through your body, constipation can result, as early as week two after conception.

5. Frequent Urination

The size of your uterus expands within the first few weeks of pregnancy, putting added pressure on the bladder. This pressure can send you to the ladies’ room with more frequency than you’re used to.

6. Nausea & Vomiting

Many women experience nausea within the first four weeks. For some, queasiness lasts the first trimester, and for others, it can last the entire pregnancy. If you experience severe nausea and vomiting, discuss natural remedies with your midwife.
